My father had a good job during the day and pimped at night until he lost that job and only pimped. I realized at a very young age that many factors must be in place for a mother to escape. I learned early on that some mothers could not keep any household money, even if they earned it themselves.

At a young age, I learned not to get excited with every escape, but I learned to recognize my mother's strengths each time she left. I also saw firsthand the systems that failed her, such as the courts that gave my father custody of me every other weekend.

He had six young prostitutes. Even now, I remember their faces, my thoughts about how they were dressed, and my deep resolve never wanting to have to live that life.

I remember the very last escape. We moved constantly until I was older, and I remember feeling embarrassed to tell friends, eventually becoming used to keeping secrets.

Today, it is called sex and human trafficking, but for those directly affected, domestic violence and abuse are universal. Terms like "pimp" or "daddy" are spoken like a reflex.

NOT DEFINED BY MY WHY

I am not defined by my past. However, it undoubtedly shaped my mission.

I am an Army veteran who uses art as a powerful release and mental outlet for healing. Through my artwork, I have raised funds to support survivor missions and build community awareness across the region. I have had the honor of opening for icons such as Stevie Wonder, and my artwork is featured in various universities and private celebrity homes. Yet, I remain most humbled by being commissioned by the Pentagon to produce "Honor 911," a commemorative piece created in honor of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy.

As a self-taught artist who created collections such as Wood Illusions, Life, and the Shattered Glass Collection, I am widely recognized for capturing raw emotion through my work. My process is innovative, using materials and light, shadow, and space to create an illusory effect where artwork appears to lift right off the canvas, glass, or wood.

MY WHY

Someone said to me last year, "You are not responsible for your father's sins." I think about that all the time.
