Volunteer Survivor Testimonial;
"Thank you so much for Saturday. You, Afua, P7 —
It took a lot OF me to show up & be there… but in being present, I regained a piece of self… & while sitting with her and acknowledging her the past couple of days hasn’t necessarily been what I “want”, it’s been what I “need”… & I’m so proud and so thankful. Thank you.
It is such a blessing to be reminded and to know that our purpose is in our strength… in that, the narrative shifts from things happening “to” us to things happening “for” us. Again, thank you.
With all of that being said, sometime — if and when you have some time, I would like to know if you’d be open to getting coffee, etc. I would like to know more about SNMM and how I can be involved in/with the organization (outside of my affiliation to......."

Our Annual Training Events & Community
Team Awareness Builders
Forums such as this, DV sensitivity training, and all community endeavors unite us in efforts to avoid temporary bandages and focus more on casts. Casts are used to immobilize injuries, promote healing, and reduce pain and further injuries while the injury heals.We believe that there should be a unified understanding that the high rate of victims returning an average of 7-12 times to their abusers suggests there is a breakdown within our system. Unfortunately the healing process doesn’t necessarily begin when a victim of abuse is finally away from their abuser. Most victims don’t even realize the extent of their abuse until months later once considering the other types of abuse they endured such as; mentally, verbally, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and sexually abused in addition to the physical abuse. If we decrease the victim returning statistics it lowers the amount of isolation, embarrassment, generational abuse, and deaths.

They are dedicated to educating others and demonstrating to current victims that there is hope and healing on the other side.

Two-Year Survivorship Discussion
The discussion gathers various organizations, advocates, agencies, community members, law firms, elected officials, and real-time victims and survivors from across the DMV. Each participant brings heartfelt expertise and experiences to the table. By listening, we can uncover the various ways domestic violence presents itself, gain firsthand knowledge of the roadblocks victims endure when seeking help, and understand the crucial questions we ask to effectively address domestic violence and human trafficking. Through our discussion, we will begin to identify the areas that need strengthening and lengthening within our support system.

UNIFIED UNDERSTANDING
Annual Sensitivity Training
This training is meant to forge better understanding of victim’s lived experiences and trauma so our system can work effectively for everyone. Only until we work together as a community, help strengthen support systems, and continually educate ourselves on silent warning signs, will we see a decrease in the average number of abuse victims we each encounter on a daily basis.
It is a unified understanding that it is not the nature of the relationship that determines abusiveness; it is the actions of the abuser.
